Stonehenge is located in the county of Wiltshire the nearest town is Amesbury. The large standing stones are believed to have been erected at around 2200 BC in a circular formation and would have been a colossal task for this time. There is evidence that the site had been worked upon from 3100 BC. The type of stone used for the Stone Circle is thought to have come from the Preseli Hills some 250 miles away in Wales and are known as bluestones Stonehenge construction is thought to have been in a number of phases encompassing some 3000 years in the making and there is also evidence that this time span could be more that 6500 year with pre and after activity.
